The FIT Index as an important indicator

The FIT Index is a central component of Orthelligent® PRO. It calculates the relative value of the test results of the injured leg compared to the healthy leg and shows you the training required to prevent injuries. Target values between 85 and 115 percent in post-treatment and between 90% and 110 percent in prevention provide clear guidelines for optimal recovery and performance.

Proof of the accuracy of the measurement results

Technical validation involves proving that the measurement results of Orthelligent® sensors meet the criteria of objectivity/accuracy and precision. This evidence is provided by comparison with established methods.

This article in the Zeitschrift für Physiotherapie (Journal of Physiotherapy) shows various possible applications of digital-based measurement systems in the therapeutic environment and their advance in the objective assessment and documentation of patients’ functional movement parameters. Recommendations are given on how such systems (e.g. Orthelligent) can be integrated into everyday practice and used to objectify decision-making in the therapeutic context.

In this multi-center study, also known as the “ORSOME study”, the main objective was to investigate the effect of Orthelligent on the adherence of ACL patients to follow prescribed rehabilitation protocols and the associated tests and exercises on a regular basis. It was found that improved adherence is achieved through the use of the app and Orthelligent thus has the potential to improve clinical rehabilitation outcomes and enable evidence-based, individualized telerehabilitation based on the progress of functional abilities.
Furthermore, in this study, service providers such as sports and physiotherapists were asked to assess the suitability, effect and potential of using Orthelligent for specific indication areas and patient groups. The most important outcome was the assessment of the high potential for improving clinical rehabilitation results.

In this multicenter cohort study, the influences of various parameters (such as the time between injury and surgery, age, gender, pain, graft type and concomitant injuries as well as various points in time of rehabilitation) on motor function after ACL reconstruction were investigated in multiple linear mixed model regressions using measurement data from 1,441 people from the Orthelligent register.
The investigated parameters are not independent but interrelated predictors of functional outcomes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Knowledge of their interactive contribution to motor function is helpful for the management of reconstruction (earlier reconstructions should be preferred), deficit-oriented function-based rehabilitation (time- and function-based rehabilitation instead of an exclusively time- or function-based approach) and individualized return-to-sport strategies.

A very early study at the renowned ARCUS Clinic, which started immediately after the market launch of Orthelligent®, investigated the correlation and significance of Orthelligent® tests with those of validated scores in ACL patients.
The objective measurements with Orthelligent were compared with the IKDC score, the Lysholm score and the Tegner activity score after 3 and 6 months.
The results confirm the validity of the measurement results and allow the conclusion that the sensor-based application is suitable for assessing the functional outcome of knee patients.
The authors further conclude that “this will have further implications for clinical and therapeutic decision making, quality control and monitoring of rehabilitation interventions as well as for scientific research”.

n this validation study, the measurements of the 10 functional tests of the Orthelligent system were compared with the Golden Standard of motion analysis, a 3D video motion capture system (SIMI® system) with 8 synchronized cameras.
The measurement results for time-based results were almost completely identical in both systems. Angle-based measurements showed differences of 1-3 degrees. Overall, the Orthelligent system is judged to be a valid test system for functional motion analysis.
In addition to discussing the measurement results, this publication also looked in more detail at the special features of functional movement tests and discussed their significance for practical applications.
